Thanks for the suggestion, Christopher. I implemented it on a test site, and it's storing the correct local time in the database for datetime_taken. I will test a few other components to see if it has any unwanted side effects elsewhere.

Thank you for letting me know John.
It may have some undesired effects when it gets applied (e.g. if something checks for the time and suddendly the time goes back 8 hours, it may cause unexpected behavior) but other than that it shouldn't affect other functionalities.
